Mentorship Is Key to SuccessIf you’re reading this, I’m certain you’ll agree that all of us are trying to do better in life. Whether that’s personally, professionally, physically or spiritually, human beings are always on the quest to better themselves.

The need for progress drives us. Living to our fullest potential is a gift we can all exercise to better ourselves and the world around us.

“We become like the 5 people we associate ourselves with. I took this belief to heart because, to me, if we are what we eat, then we can definitely become what we think.”

And in this quest, it’s so important to surround ourselves with people that can guide, propel and inspire us towards our highest ideals.

Do You Have Your 5?

I had a chance to see and hear Tony Jeary at the EcSell Sales Summit in May this year. Tony’s words were uplifting and he stressed the need for mentorship.

In every area of life where you’d like to excel, he recommended, it’s best to seek out mentors. Whether you’re trying to have a better marriage, be a better sales leader, find a mentor that has already walked in that path.

That’s powerful.

Tim Ferriss and James Altucher constantly refer to the fact that we become like the 5 people we associate ourselves with. I took this belief to heart because, to me, if we are what we eat, then we can definitely become what we think.

Lucky me, I believe I’ve got 2 out of my 5 already. Through their mentorship, I’m pushed into uncomfortable situations all the time. It’s not easy. In fact, it’s painful. But, it helps me break through my own limitations and negative self-talk. And let’s face it, we all have negative and limiting beliefs about ourselves.

Call me a sucker or a dreamer, but I fundamentally believe that my betterment can only aid those around me and help contribute to a better environment.

This is why I’m committed to my drive to seek out 5 mentors. I’m 40% of the way there and these people are pushing and prodding me everyday. I believe I’ve achieved significantly faster growth as a result.

Do you have your 5 mentors lined up and ready to coach you? If not, I implore you to start looking NOW. Get uncomfortable and seek them out – they’re waiting for you even if you can’t recognize them now.

The Power of Thought

One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned from my mentors is focus. They’re drilling this concept into me on a daily basis. The natural by-product of focus has them preaching the removal of negativity, at all costs.

The human mind is a powerful tool. But, your thought-process has finite power on a daily basis. Things like gossip, negative self-talk, and etc. can take over the limited energy your mind and body have.

For example, assume you were to quantify your daily available energy as 100%. Achieving your daily goals will require virtually all of this energy. Spending mental energy on all other activities, then, can easily slow you down or, worse, derail you completely.

The Bottom Line

I hope this post helps you understand the value of surrounding yourself with people that can help you soar over and above your current state.
