I Like Cookies – Not Cookie Cutters (Video)

Cookie CuttersCookie cutter approaches don’t work in sales. If they’re working for you, you’re probably leaving money on the table.

As sales people, we’re constantly trying to make our lives easier (that’s code for the fact that most of us are lazy). However, on social media you can’t take that old school sales approach. Although some of the tactics will work, you have to do some things a little bit different.

Every new medium requires some new etiquette, my friends.

I was watching a video by Gary Vaynerchuck and he said that after producing his daily wine TV show back in the day, he took the time to reply to each and every one of his e-mails, social media comments, messages… you name it. This is the type of ENGAGEMENT that will drive you to success. You’ve got to be willing to take the time to get to know your audience.

Just remember something: your audience doesn’t need you. You need them! People are looking to be engaged in ways that are meaningful and refreshing. While we all make mistakes from time to time (myself included), the key here is to focus on that engagement.

The Bottom Line

You’ve got to be willing to invest the time to stand out over and above your current ways of engaging with people. Potential buyers are looking for uniqueness and individuality these days. You’re a buyer too - aren’t you looking for the same thing? This shouldn’t be a surprise to you.

Using social selling allows you to stand out and engage with people in conversations that are meaningful, contextual and relevant. You should give it a try and see what kind of opportunities are out there for you in a world where buyers are beginning to research and learn online by themselves.

To give yourself a shot at success, try social selling. Remember, social selling isn’t difficult, it’s just different.
