We’ve talked about why it’s necessary to create your own content in addition to sharing/curating it. From that perspective, I showed you how writing your own blog was one of the best ways to achieve that.
Writing blogs is great. But even on the best of days, some of us (yours truly included) just can’t muster up the brain power to write. If you fit in this category, consider recording your thoughts on video. It’s never been easier and there are many tools that can make your life easier.
Let me discuss a very simple way to get started. I want to underscore that this is not an advanced guide to video blog recording. My goal here is to encourage you to start recording – once you get comfortable in that, you can explore the advanced ways (I’ll be sure to write a blog on that later).
Why Should You Record Video Blogs?
From a marketing perspective, video gets up to 8x the conversion compared to the written word. People are much more engaged to video. Even for us, we see that video gets more views and engagement. Sometimes it makes me wonder why I write blogs at all – maybe I should just be recording videos all the time but then I remember - written blogs do have their place for SEO purposes.
Some Housekeeping Rules
Keep it short & simple: we’re all bombarded with information so it’s important to deliver your views in as little time as possible. Respect the viewer’s time. Here’s an example of the video blog we put out called Social Selling in 60 Seconds.
- Share, share and then share some more. Take your video and share it with you customers, prospects, peers, etc. Your goal here is to establish knowledge and authority in your subject matter.
- Call to Action: make sure every video has a specific call to action. Invite the reader to e-mail you, call you, download something you’ve created, Tweet, Like, jump upside down…whatever helps you.
- Use your laptop webcam: no reason to invest in a fancy webcam yet. Just get comfortable with the medium first.
- Get Camtasia Studio or any other screen recording software so you can capture what you’re doing on screen.
Video Ideas for Sales Professionals
Wondering what to record? Consider some of these ideas to help get you started.
- Record an interview with one of your clients. Ask them to give you 10 minutes of their time to discuss industry trends. Share that video with similar prospects. What a great way to establish credibility. Think cold calling can do this?
- Approach influencers and thought leaders and get some face time with them.
- Review the latest books in your industry.
You’ll think of great ideas once you start recording. The key is to start. Start now and adjust later.
The Bottom Line
Recording your thoughts on video is a great way to create content and stand out from the crowd. The important lesson here is to create content. As buyers turn increasingly online to start their research, you need to leave smart, bite-sized, digital bread crumbs, that entice them to take action and work with you.
